Description & Building Alterations
This five-story brick tenement building was built in 1870 by owner Allan Hay, owner of the Allan Hay & Co. soap and candle factory that was on this site and the lots to the north along First Avenue. The factory was destroyed in a fire in 1863. This tenement was built along with Nos. 33 & 35 First Avenue and 84 East 2nd Street.
The three-bay wide Italianate facade features a bracketed and modillioned cornice, arched window lintels and sills, and historic piers framing the entrance.
