34 Stuyvesant Street | Block : 465 | Lot #39
Description & Building Alterations
This structure was erected in 1896 for the Hebrew Technical Institute, designed by Buchman Deisler and as a school for boys. In 1901, an alteration permit was filed which included the connection of this building to 255 East 9th Street and the architects were Pollard and Steinam. In 1939 NYU leased the building and continued to use it as instructional space. The four-bay wide brick building was originally five stories tall and features stone lintels and sills (which are continuous on the second and fifth stories). According to a certificate of occupancy, a sixth story had been added by 1921.
