339-341 East 12th Street | Block : 454 | Lot #50
Description & Building Alterations
This building was constructed as a new law tenement with a storefront on the first floor in 1904. The building replaced a 1901 apartment building owned by Elias Kempner and designed by G.F. Pelham. The original owners were Hillman & Goldman and the architects were Sass & Smallheiser. In 1909, the building was owned by Annie Eisman and an additional partition was added by Gross & Kleinberger architects. In 1937, the stores were replaced by apartments and the original cornice was redone. 339 East 12th Street is six stories high and five bays wide with the three center bays featuring paired windows. It is clad in brick with stone ornament in classical motifs, especially at the center bay. The modillioned cornice is intact and features dentil molding. The windows vary in their ornament. The first floor has been stripped of original detail.
