Description & Building Alterations

This five-story with basement tenement was originally built in Italianate style with Renaissance Revival elements. This lot was part of the extensive holdings of Stephen Whitney beginning in 1825; it was passed down to Maria Whitney in 1862, who was responsible for constructing the building, and was bought by Maria Furchtenicht in 1874 (East Village/Lower East Side Historic District Designation Report).

The facade features a bracketed iron cornice, molded segmentally-arched stone lintels, and an historic door hood above entrance. The stoop is likely historic.
