332 East 14th Street | Block : 455 | Lot #23
Description & Building Alterations
This building was constructed between 1849 and 1850 along with the adjacent three tax lots (lots 17, 18, and 19). Before construction the vacant lots were valued at $1,800.00 each and the owner was Susan E. Leroy. In 1850 these buildings were owned by H.P. Weeks and valued at $5,000.00 each. In 1851 the owner changed to D.M. Peyser. In 1941, the owner of lot 23, Attilio Ruisi, filed for a permit to add bathrooms and kitchens to the building. At the time, the building held a restaurant in the basement, a photography studio on the first floor, and a rooming house on the upper floors. In 1966 the storefront was altered. According to historic tax photos, the cornice and ornamentation has been removed and the façade has been refaced in new brick. Currently the building is five stories in height, with two bays at the upper three floors. There is a single bay window at the second floor and the facade is clad in brick.
