Description & Building Alterations

This seven-story apartment building was erected in 1986, according to the Office for Metropolitan History. It replaced a one-story garage, seen in the 1980’s tax photo. Previously, there was a four-story brick building on the lot, demolished in 1941. The building’s facade features a red brick surface and simple rectangular sills.

What is the Building Blocks Project

What does a building mean to someone who lives there? A person who lives on the block? In the neighborhood? In the city? This site presents a wealth of historic information gained from GVSHP’s architectural research survey about the buildings located in the East Village.
