32 East 3rd Street | Block : 458 | Lot #23
Description & Building Alterations
This is one of five surviving transitional Greek Revival row houses built together in 1835-36 by hardware merchants Hubbard & Casey. It recalls the days when this portion of Second Avenue was an elite residential thoroughfare.
All have Flemish Bond brickwork, which is evidence of their age. This building particularly adopted brown stone for entrance enframement, window lintels and sills, most of which have been resurfaced. The wood door frame is recessed, with transom and side lights. Capitals and egg-and-dart molding have been removed from the door frame.
