Description & Building Alterations

This four-story row house was constructed by builder James C. Whitlock for original owner Runyon W. Martin c. 1847-48. This house was built as one of a pair of row houses at Nos. 317 to 319 East 10th Street.

Originally designed in the Greek Revival style, it received Queen Anne alterations in the later 19^th century. The lintels, sill and cornice were replaced with Queen Anne details, which commonly occurred with Greek Revival row houses of this time. It consists of a historic cast-iron stoop railing, elaborate entrance enframement, and bracketed galvanized-iron window lintels and sills with foliate ornament. The modillions have been removed from the historic cornice.
