Description & Building Alterations
This six-story tenement was constructed in 1901 by Michael Bernstein for A. Silverson. Retail space was built into the first floor. The building features splayed lintels with scrolled keystones and a modillioned cornice with decorative frieze panel.
The basement apartment of this building was occupied by Abbie Hoffman and his wife Anita from 1967 to 1968, around the time that they and Jerry Rubin started the notorious Youth International Party, known as the Yippies, and planned for the 1968 Democratic Convention.
