30 East 3rd Street | Block : 458 | Lot #22
Description & Building Alterations
This is one of five surviving transitional Greek Revival row houses built together in 1835 by hardware merchants Hubbard & Casey. It recalls the days when this portion of Second Avenue was an elite residential thoroughfare.
All have Flemish Bond brickwork, which is evidence of their age. This is the only one of the houses with a rear extension, which was added in 1912. The row house has a Renaissance Revival-style cornice and window lintels, which might have been added in the later 19th century. The parlor floor features historic six-over-six wood windows. The historic entrance enframement is not visible today, as it has been shaved down.
