27 East 7th Street | Block : 463 | Lot #44
Description & Building Alterations
This building was built simultaneously with the tenement at 25 East 7th Street. Architect Jobst Hoffman designed the five story brick and stone building to provide living space to 10 families. Owner at the time of construction was John W. Miller.
In 1968, the Order of St. Basil the Great owned the building. According to a Certificate of Occupancy, the cellar was used as a boiler room and storage; the first floor was used as a kitchen, a laundry area, a dining parlor, and for recreation; the second floor was used as a chapel, three bedrooms, a study, and storage; the third and fourth floors were used as four bedrooms, two studies, and storage space; and the fifth floor was used as two bedrooms, a study, and a reading room.
