Description & Building Alterations

Once the fourth building in a row of five identical row houses, this lot is now the location of a 6 story residential building constructed in 2016. The steel structure was designed by Versatile Engineering, P.C., and features a gray brick facade with large windows and balconies in the right bay. The original row house on this lot, built in 1874 by Richard R. Shapter, was demolished in 1956. The lot remained then vacant until 2016.

In the summer of 1913, in what was then a fairly rough neighborhood, a gang leader was killed outside a billiards hall located on the first floor of the tenement. For more about that story, please click on the links on the side of the page.
