Description & Building Alterations

This six-story brick building was constructed in 1895 as a stable and storage. The building originally was five stories tall, though shortly thereafter plans for an additional story were filed. Prior to 1931, the first story was altered to make space for a store. In 1938, the storefront was altered. The alteration consisted of replacing the wooden door and window frames with metal frames flush with the building line.

The facade was influenced by the commercial design of the late 19th century. It features various brick patterns and rounch-arched windows on the fifth floor in the Romanesque style. There is a crenellated banding course above the fifth floor. The historic roof cornice seems to have been removed for the most part, and a first floor cornice may have been removed entirely. It appears that much of the decorative brick work was added after the 1940s. There are also cast iron pilasters on the ground floor. In 1996, the entire building was converted to residential use.

In 1998, the second floor served as a church and rectory and was open to the public. The above floors each provided space for two dwelling units and the first floor remained a store.
