Description & Building Alterations

Although drastically altered, 227 East 11th Street was originally built as a row house in 1853 on land previously owned by Gerard Stuyvesant. In 1853, the owner was listed as “Stone.” By the early 1900s it was functioning as a boarding house. It was converted into apartments in the mid-1970s, and the front facade may date to that time period.
