Description & Building Alterations

Two story brick building was originally a 5 story building erected in 1857 by J. Peck. In 1895, the storefront was removed and replaced by a new one with a galvanized iron cornice. In 1949, the third through fifth stories of the building were demolished due to unsafe conditions by owner M. Berkowitz, Inc. The former tenement received a new certificate of occupancy as a two-story commercial building with a store on the ground floor and a restaurant above. In 1950, the second floor was used as offices and studios for dance instruction.
