Description & Building Alterations

The original four story building dates to the mid 19th century and by 1907 was used as a tenement. In 2006-07 a major renovation was carried out and the building was raised to six stories. The original 19th century building is no longer recognizable.

What is the Building Blocks Project

The site explores the area generally considered today as the East Village: from a northern border of 14th Street to a southern border of Houston Street, Avenue D in the east to 4th Avenue/the Bowery to the west.
