Description & Building Alterations

No. 216 East 7th Street was constructed along with its neighbors at 218 and 220 East 7th Street by architect Peter Tostevin in 1876.

This five story, four bay structure is clad in brick and has decorative metal lintels and sills at the windows.  The cornice has been removed.   The first floor is three bays and clad in brown stone with arched openings.  This a Pre-Law Tenement was originally constructed with ten apartments. The building shares many features with its two neighbors to the east including metal window surrounds and formerly, a galvanized iron cornice. The original building permit states that the ground floor façade was to be coped in brownstone, and 216 East 7th Street retains the most original appearance of the three buildings.
