Description & Building Alterations

This eight-bay wide, six-story new-law tenement was erected in 1909 to accommodate stores and 29 families.

A map of East Village art galleries from 1983 (see sidebar) shows that the P.P.O.W. was at No. 216.

The brick facade features bracketed galvanized-iron cornice with paneled frieze, flat stone window lintels with scroll keystones, stone beltcourses, projecting patterned brickwork, and iron pilasters with ornate details flanking the entrance.
