Description & Building Alterations

Lot 46 is made up of former lots 46, 47, 48 and 49. Today the space is occupied by a community garden called the Lower East Side Ecology Center Garden. Demolition of previous structures on the property occurred in 1935 and 1947. Lot 48 and 49 contained tenements that were demolished in 1935, and lot 46 also contained a tenement, demolished in 1947. The four lots were consolidated shortly thereafter and utilized for parking. The garden is owned by the City of New York.

What is the Building Blocks Project
