210 East 14th Street | Block : 469 | Lot #13
Description & Building Alterations
Built in 1855 for Gerard Stuyvesant, a direct descendant of Peter Stuyvesant, this building was the twin to the building at 208 East 14th Street which has since been demolished. The Italianate building, which was originally clad in brownstone, has retained its original window lintels and sills but the entire facade has been stuccoed and painted. It has also recently lost its cornice and the original raised-stoop entrance is also gone.
The original use of the building was as a private dwelling. It functioned as a boarding house for an unknown length of time, but in 1905 was converted into a store, office and housing for one family. As the neighborhood changed, and housing needs shifted, it was converted into multi-family dwellings.
