207 Avenue A | Block : 440 | Lot #32
Description & Building Alterations
A wood building appears on this lot in the 1853 map, and is replaced by the present brick building in the 1862 map. Between these years, there is no year in which Lot 32 is listed as vacant in the tax assessment records. However, between 1855 and 1856 the value of the building on the lot rose significantly, suggesting that a new building had been erected. The 1855 record states that the lot, owned by Keenan, was valued at $3,500. By the time the 1856 record was taken, the lot was still owned by Keenan but had jumped to $5,500 in value. The present facade mostly dates from later alterations. It features a slightly stepped brick parapet, simplified molded lintels, simple rectangular sills, and a molded cornice above the first story. The first story was used to house a funeral chapel in the late 1930s, at which time the storefront was altered.
