Description & Building Alterations

This one-story garage replaced two three-story houses that formerly existed at No. 20 & 22 East 2nd Street between 1934 and 1955.

The previous homes were most likely constructed in the 1830s with the other Greek Revival-style row houses on the block. Both of the original homes went through multiple alterations. Architecture firm Neville & Bagge conducted an alteration to the house on the former Lot 39 in 1900. It is unclear when the current structure was built, except that it was no earlier than 1934 as evidenced by the permits. The one story garage first appears on the 1955 map. In 2006 the garage was transformed into an art studio.
