19 First Avenue | Block : 443 | Lot #36
Description & Building Alterations
This four-story brick building, with commercial space on the first level, was constructed together with lots 37 and 38 in 1843. In 1872, the buildings were all raised from three stories to four stories. This building was further altered in 1908 to accommodate new stores. At this time the first and second story storefronts were altered. It was occupied by one family per each of the upper floors.
The Italianate facade features simple lintels and sills, in addition to a bracketed and modillioned cornice. It appears that a ground floor cornice may have once existed on this building.
