Description & Building Alterations
Designed in the Renaissance Revival style by Alfred E. Badt, this corner lot, new law tenement building once housed 30 families and ground-floor shops. Although the red brick and white terra cotta would have contrasted originally, the now painted surface overplays this effect. The missing pressed-metal cornice has also been replaced with diamond details, detracting from the intended look. Still, the intact terra-cotta details make this building a nice addition to the block. The full window surrounds that span the second and third floors and the fourth and fifth floors, mixed with the splayed lintels, create a rhythmic and balanced facade.
