Description & Building Alterations

This block once contained an entire row of mid-1830s houses built in the transitional Greek Revival style, one of which survives at No. 14 East 2nd Street. The four story brick structure has a green cornice with attic windows juxtaposed within the cornice starting at the eave. First and second story windows have flat terra cotta lintels and sills. The paneled door surround consists of side lights along with three transom lights and there is a wrought-iron gateway in front of the building.

The building has maintained its original Flemish Bond brickwork, which is typical of buildings constructed prior to 1838. When this house was built, this portion of the neighborhood was considered a very desirable place to reside.
