Description & Building Alterations
This five-story, four-bay wide pre-law tenement was originally built in 1861. The lot was once part of William B. Astor’s holdings and was leased out to various people between c. 1850-1875. In 1907, a brick and stone outhouse with nine water closets was constructed at the rear of the property by architect Frank Hausle. In 1928 indoor water closets were incorporated into the apartments.
The front facade is clad in a red brick and features molded window lintels, rectangular sills, and a stepped parapet. The structure has been altered most notably the cornice has been removed and window lintels have been removed from the left side bay windows.
