Description & Building Alterations
The firm of Horenburger & Straub, who built this new-law tenement in 1902, had many commissions in the city at the turn of the century. They were known for their use of sculptural ornamentation and, in this case, may have played with brick patterns as an alternative. The Michelson family often worked with Horenburger & Straub to alter and build tenement houses. This building stayed in their family until 1945, when Abraham Michelson, perhaps a husband or son of Sarah, sold the property. Today the original geometric, symmetrical facade exists, but the cornice is missing and the ground floor has been altered.
