112 East 11th Street; 112-120 East 11th Street | Block : 556-1 | Lot #16
Description & Building Alterations
A new building permit for a thirteen-story hotel was filed in 2017 and construction was completed in 2019. Previously, five Beaux-Arts style five-story Old Law tenements were located on this site built between 1887 and 1891: 112 East 11th Street in 1887, 114 East 11th Street in 1889, and 116-120 East 11th Street in 1891. In 1940, Pete Seeger, singer, songwriter, and civil rights and anti-war activist, moved into the demolished 118 East 11th Street building with his brother. These five tenements once stood directly across the historic Webster Hall concert building. Village Preservation requested the landmark designation of these buildings as part of an East Eleventh Street Historic District, but that request was denied by New York City, click HERE for the letter.
