Like the early to mid-19th century tenements previously located on these six lots until 1958, 111 Third Avenue combines apartments over ground-floor stores. However, this modern building soars 17-stories high as opposed to three or four. The facade of contrasting white and blue glazed brick, each emphasizing either the horizontal or the vertical elements of the building, was popular in mid-century architecture.
