108-112 3rd Avenue | Block : 559 | Lot #7501
Description & Building Alterations
This large apartment building replaced the Variety Theatre, a two-story moving picture theater and office building constructed in 1914. The building was renovated and opened as a nickelodeon theater in 1914, most likely incorporating perimeter walls of an existing 1897 structure on the site. Its façade was designed by Louis Sheinhart. The theater, operated as an Off-Broadway venue since 1991, was closed in 2004 and demolished the following year.
