Description & Building Alterations

This three-story building was formerly part of Lot 1 on this block. The original owner and date of construction are unknown, but the building appears on the 1853 map and therefore predates this year. It is three bays wide with an exposed basement level, and is clad in brick with punched windows and modern sashes. The cornice is intact and features paired brackets. In 1940, internal alterations were completed under owner Lower 2nd Ave. Corp. & 4th Ave. Holding Co. and engineer David Kaufman. New partitions, bathrooms, and kitchenettes were added in 1969 by owner Ramoy Realty Company and architect Henry George Greene. The building has maintained some original details, such as the cornice and brick façade.
