Description & Building Alterations

This pre-law Italianate tenement was built in 1873 along with the buildings at 8-12 Avenue A (see that entry for the New Building permit). It was designed to house one family on each floor with stores on the first floor. In 1920 the ground floor was altered and made flush with the building line. At the time the base of the storefront was sheathed in marble.

What is the Building Blocks Project
