41 Avenue B; 41-43 Avenue B | Block : 386 | Lot #3
Description & Building Alterations
A new seven-story mixed-use building was erected on these two lots in 1999. The building contains 22 apartment units and one retail space.
Two five-story pre-law tenements occupied the lots until 1988. In 1980-81, one of the ground floor units at 43 Avenue B held the former offices of The East Village Eye, a monthly magazine that ran from May 1979 to January 1987. According to the magazine’s website (see link in sidebar), The East Village Eye covered “popular and avant garde culture, [exerting] a profound influence that eventually reached across the entire world.” The 43 Avenue B location was confirmed by Leonard Abrams, former editor of the magazine.
