Description & Building Alterations

This six-story old law tenement was constructed in 1898 by owner Leopold Kaufmann and designed by Schneider & Herter, the architects of No. 58 and No. 54-56 East 3rd Street. It was to be occupied by 16 families and stores on the ground floor.

The Renaissance Revival-style facade features original elements such as light gray brick and decorative terra cotta window lintels, along with decorative entrance enframements, a bracketed cornice, and ornamental beltcourses. The storefront has been infilled.
