Description & Building Alterations

This tenement building was likely built in 1854 and contains residential space on the upper floors and commercial space on the ground floor. The four-story corner building has a primary facade on Avenue A as well as a secondary facade on East 6th Street. The secondary facade on East 6th Street is only the building’s full height on part of the lot, while a one story extension abuts the neighboring building. The facade is a simple red brick with six windows on each floor of the Avenue side. The lintels are simple, rectangular and flush with the front of the building. The brick parapet has been built where the cornice has been removed and is stylistically typical of an alteration from the 1920s or 1930s.
