80 East 10th Street; 71-73 Fourth Avenue; 76-82 East 10th Street | Block : 555 | Lot #7501
Description & Building Alterations
In 2016, a ten-story concrete residential building was approved for construction on this lot, replacing a one-story commercial building. The former building was one of six locations for the Artist’s Club, a gathering place for artists and critics as an epicenter of the post-war New York art world. The Artist’s Club drew the Abstract Expressionist crowd and their creative peers in music, literature, and art. In 1956, Life Magazine photographer James Burke shot a photograph that included this property, showing evidence of three-story townhouses with storefronts on the ground floor.
This was formerly Lot 18.
