This six story brick, stone, and terra cotta Renaissance Revival apartment building was built in 1899. It features segmental fenestration at the second story and round arch fenestration at the fifth story, round-arch entryway, alternating lintels (splayed, molded, beveled, and round arch), continuous, projecting window sills, multi story pilasters with Corinthian capitals, brick and terra cotta panels, and bracketed cornice with dentils and decorated frieze. Alterations include replacement storefront, fire escape, original storefront converted to residential space before c. 1988, non historic security gate, sign band, and commercial lighting. Originally, twenty-two families lived over ground floor shops.

Hunter S. Thompson lived here in the winter of 1959 with a friend as seen in his book of letters, Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967.
