6 East 2nd Street | Block : 458 | Lot #46
Description & Building Alterations
Like many buildings on this block, No. 6 East 2nd Street was once a 2.5-story residence and store with a gambrel roof, dating from the 1830s. The pitched roof was raised in 1920, creating a 3-story building designed by Maxwell Schantz and owned by Louis Schneider. In the 1920s the entire building was utilized as stock rooms and offices.
In 1930, the building took on an additional story under the same owner and architect. It was extended to the rear of the lot line and refaced with the facade that exists today.
