545 East 13th Street | Block : 407 | Lot #38
Description & Building Alterations
This five-story old-law tenement was built in 1895 and designed in a simple Renaissance Revival style. The 1940s tax photograph displays a different cornice with large block modillions or brackets and a frieze with floral swags. The current cornice appears to have much smaller modillions, a small and simple frieze, and an architrave with egg and dart molding. The lintels appear to have been altered for repair or replacement. At some point after 1940, the ground floor storefronts were bricked in and replaced with residential units.
