424 East 10th Street; 424-426 East 10th Street | Block : 379 | Lot #21
Description & Building Alterations
Tax lots 21 and 22 are now a new apartment building constructed in 2009 as an alteration. These two lots originally housed two tenement buildings, which were built along with a third on the adjacent lot 20 (422 East 10th Street). Like their sister building, they were designed by Charles A. Cochran and built circa 1874 of brownstone and were 5-stories tall. These two buildings each housed 16 families over ground floor shops.
In 1950, the two tenement buildings were replaced with a 1-story building with a garage, a warehouse and a loading platform designed by Morris Brody.
