420 East 10th Street | Block : 379 | Lot #19
Description & Building Alterations
420 East 10th Street was designed by Charles A. Cochran in 1874. The 4-bay wide, 5-story tall Pre-Law tenement housed two families per floor and two shops on the first floor. Designed in the Italianate style and made of brownstone, the building’s details have lost definition due to weathering and subsequent layers of paint and stucco. However, the curved window lintels are still visible above several windows and the original pressed-metal cornice remains. The first floor of the building has been altered over the years and at some point was converted to residential space.
