Historic documents show that a six-story tenement was built on this lot c. 1897; its sister building at 417 East 6th Street still stands. Both were designed by George Frederick Pelham for Joseph L. Buttenweiser. It is unclear when the building was demolished, but it happened before the 1980s since a tax photo taken at that time shows a vacant lot (see link in sidebar).

What is the Building Blocks Project
