405 East 6th Street | Block : 434 | Lot #55
Description & Building Alterations
This four-story with basement tenement constructed in 1846 was originally in the Greek Revival style, and later modified to the Italianate style. It is located in the East Village/Lower East Side Historic District. An 1873 alteration application indicates that a one-story addition, similar to its neighboring building at 407 East 6th Street, was built at that time.
Alteration records indicate that the basement was converted to a store in 1870. More information can be found in the Designation Report, linked in the “Additional Resources” section.
