Description & Building Alterations
This building was constructed between 1849 and 1850 along with the adjacent three tax lots (lots 17, 18, and 23). Before construction the vacant lots were valued at $1,800.00 each and the owner was Susan E. Leroy. In 1850 these buildings were owned by H.P. Weeks and valued at $5,000.00 each. In 1851 the owner changed to D.M. Peyser. The five story, two bay building in lot 19 has an iron fire escape in the middle of the façade. It is clad in white brick. The building has lost its cornice, lintels, and original storefront.
