Description & Building Alterations

This building was constructed between 1849 and 1850 along with the adjacent three tax lots (lots 17, 19, and 23). Before construction the vacant lots were valued at $1,800.00 each and the owner was Susan E. Leroy. In 1850 these buildings were owned by H.P. Weeks and valued at $5,000.00 each. In 1851 the owner changed to D.M. Peyser. The present building is four stories with above grade basement level. It is three bays wide and clad in brick with brownstone lintels at the first floor. Its brownstone entry surround, stoop, and metal bracketed cornice are intact.
