320 East 14th Street | Block : 455 | Lot #17
Description & Building Alterations
This building was erected between 1849 and 1850 along with the adjacent three tax lots (lots 18, 19, and 23). Before construction, the vacant lots were valued at $1,800.00 each and the owner was Susan E. Leroy. In 1850 these buildings were owned by H.P. Weeks and valued at $5,000.00 each. In 1851 the owner changed to D.M. Peyser. Much later, in 1942, while the building was used as a rooming house, a water closet and second floor toilet were installed. In 1952, a store occupied the first floor. Presently, the building is five stories in height with two bays of different widths. The original brick façade has been covered by stucco, the lintels and cornice have been removed, and the first floor storefront has been severely modified.
