249 East 10th Street | Block : 438 | Lot #53
Description & Building Alterations
This five-story with basement tenement was originally constructed in 1884 by architect J. Kastner for owner and builder Peter Schaeffler, replacing a three story with basement house originally on the site.
The facade features a bracketed cornice with elaborate pediment, patterned brickwork banding, molded lintels with segmental-arched pediments, molded sills, incised decoration beneath third-floor windows, molded cornice with ornamented frieze above first story, and splayed lintels with keystones at first story. The entrance is enframed by fluted pilasters supporting a bracketed door hood. Many of the decorative pieces are partially damaged.
