The building at 242 East 2^nd Street is a seven-story commercial and residential elevator building. The building is situated on a property that was once tax lots 47, 48 and 49.

Originally, tenement buildings occupied each lot. In 1885, a five-story tenement was constructed on lot 49, housing two stores and 22 families. In 1897 and 1898, lot 47 and 48 were built upon. These later tenements were six stories in height and each housed 22 families. Lot 47 had two retail spaces on the ground floor. According to tax photos, all three lots were vacant by the 1980’s and appear to have remained so until the construction of the current building in 2004.
