Description & Building Alterations

This five-story pre-law tenement building was constructed in 1847 as part of a series of buildings erected by Richard Totten, who owned many residential buildings in the 1840s in this area.

It is four bays wide and clad in brick.  The segmental arched windows have stone lintels that have been shaved of their original ornament.  The ground level has been significantly altered but retains a cornice with short brackets and fluted pilasters. The right bay is very unique on the ground level with block windows and cast iron metal work.  The metal cornice at the roof level has large brackets at either end and small ones between.  Brick dentils run under the metal cornice.
