Description & Building Alterations

This is a five story tenement building built in 1874 and designed by August Blankenstein. The first story features a 1923 storefront. The windows have small brick sills and slightly mismatching brick patterns above the windows that suggest that decorative lintels were once present but were removed at some point.

What is the Building Blocks Project

The site explores the area generally considered today as the East Village: from a northern border of 14th Street to a southern border of Houston Street, Avenue D in the east to 4th Avenue/the Bowery to the west.
